I have a few more thoughts about the plot of the film and how it makes so much sense….
Spoilers under the break!
I wish that I was able to see Equestria Girls somehow. I just want to see it for myself, you know?
I have a few thoughts to give on the concept though. When I was in school, I never wore skirts. Not because I wasn’t ‘girly’ but because I was afraid of them. Well, also because I was required to wear them from time to time and I hated dress codes (you can’t keep me down with your rules!)…. So I don’t see skirts as inherently girly.
Sometimes people wear them because they are confident in their body - same with shorts. So I don’t really care about the skirts on the tomboy characters. I mean, Dash does wear shorts under them (kind of like Lightning from Final Fantasy XIII - who is also a tomboy wearing a skirt - yeah, I went there). Skirts have merit in sports or in anything because they are ridiculously easy to move in. Even hating skirts, I understand this.
Also you have Luna and Celesia in pants. Rock on, ladies. (Does Luna talk a lot in this movie?)
Also, I don’t care about Twilight liking a boy. Because that’s a thing that girls/guys do. Even if they’re not interested in dating, they can still have a crush on someone. It doesn’t invalidate her awesome qualities. She used to not care about friendship at all, remember? She can change and grow and be interested in different things from time to time. I like boys too. Shocker~
People complaining about the magical-girl quality, the dance, the dresses, or the general design of the ponies… confuse me. Have they really watched the show - especially Season One? Or do they only remember the parts that invalidate this movie. The Elements of Harmony is from the freaking PILOT - which has a CHEESY CLIMAX, guys! SO MUCH CHEESE (AND CORN). A good deal of Season One deals with the girls getting ready for the Gala - Rarity making dresses, crushing on Blueblood - so this movie seems more like a humanized version of Season One’s Gala arc than anything…. Then again, I haven’t seen it yet, but the plot summary I read seems to go with that idea.
The songs that I heard seemed catchy. I don’t like all of the songs in the actual show, I think they heavily fluctuated in quality after the first season. The end of Season 2 was the best part of Season Two in my opinion in part because of the awesome songs in the finale, the rest of it was really hit and miss for me. I skipped around a lot in Season Three. Season One, even with all of its “girly gala gunk” was the best Season for me.
As for the design of the humans being “too similar”. Have you seen the mane six? They all have the EXACT SAME BODY TYPE (ignoring Fluttershy as a filly). That’s all I need to say on that. At least the humans have different faces. Okay, one more thing, I really liked that Fluttershy was wearing makeup like Rarity. Because even though she’s shy an earthy, she seems to love fashion a lot and dressing up just like Rarity and I like that they kept that… I just love Fluttershy, man.
The idea of Twilight struggling to be a princess is also kind of cool. It’s responsibility and taking responsibility for your new job can be incredibly difficult sometimes. Especially when you think you’re not ready. As someone who graduated from college a year early (which is especially early for someone who is already one of the youngest in her class) I can relate to that. I’m sure a lot of people can too, yeah?
I haven’t bought a next-gen console yet. I probably won’t for a while, and I think Sony anticipates that. Why? Because games are still being made for the PS3, which I do have. That’s smart.
A lot of people said that the Xbox One announced more (and ‘better’) exclusives. More, yes, but better is debatable. However, if you count the number of exclusives available for both PS4 and PS3 within the next year, Sony has more exclusives. And then you count the Vita…
Microsoft is not giving as much (any?) first party support to the 360 now that the One is coming out.
Also, while I know a lot of people who play Halo, and I enjoy things like RvB, I also love Sucker Punch and Naughty Dog and they are not going anywhere - I don’t think Sony would ever be stupid enough to let those two studios slide into dust.
I wanted to give Microsoft the benefit of the doubt. Here’s the thing, though… I love being in control. Yeah, you don’t have to be connected to the Xbox all the time, and I’m ‘connected to the internet now’ but you know what? What if I wasn’t? What if my power went out in a hurricane and it took a few days for the Internet to come up after the power did? That’s a thing that happens in Southern states. Do you expect me to just suck it up and ‘go outside’? I went outside while the power was out… I want to play games WHEN I WANT TO PLAY GAMES, that’s why I have a game console.
Microsoft has taken power away from the consumer and handed it to the publisher. More so than Sony has. DRM and Online Passes exist today, and Sony has stated that that will continue if publishers choose. But they do not REQUIRE you to check-in online. That is where the main and most important difference lies with me. It will only affect certain games, not the entire console!
That and discs. Putting any restrictions on single player, disc-based games… is dumb. It’s like telling me I can’t lend a book to a friend when I buy one at the store. When I buy a disc, I don’t want to count out the people I want to share it with. I want to be able to share it with everyone, or sell it to them maybe. Call me old school, but hey “No school like the old school”.
[Even more under the break…]
So I am a huge fan of Teen Titans, the animated series. Huge fan. I was not happy when I heard that they would be bringing it back as whatever-this-is. But I was really just desperate for the characters back.
I actually ended up laughing a lot more than I expected. I think that it really does benefit from having the same characters. If these were new iterations of the same characters with different actors, or new characters altogether, the show wouldn’t work.
I was prepared for the worst. I wonder if they were intentionally trying to make us think it would be Red.
It was a great episode either way. I figured out less than halfway through that it would definitely be Cora and that Red was just a red-herring. I’m glad, because that would have been a huge detraction from the show. Even if she’s not prominent, at least she’s alive - as long as she’s alive she has the potential to come back in a big way. Will she? Not sure. Hope so!
But man, what a great episode. As soon as Cora smiled at Regina I just groaned, “Oh, this is going to hurt.” And it did. Now I just imagine what would have happened if Cora had never ripped out her heart.
Also, great way to make everyone think Regina was Gold’s daughter for a whole five minutes. Almost bought it.
is seriously starting to annoy me. I do not need hourly reminders hyping up the episode with the same status. They’re not even saying anything about the episode. It’s just “Yeah guys, someone is TOTALLY GONNA DIE”
“SERIOUSLY GUYS, DEATH”
“Really though, you’re gonna probably cry’.
“Sunday. Dying. BE THERE.”
That is basically how it feels to me.
Is this their strange attempt to try and boost the ratings? Haha, a more effective attempt would be to stop putting in breaks. :)
Ah well.
I know the line you’re talking about - it’s from an interview in preparation for “Child of the Moon”.
It would crush me on the inside, but I think as a viewer it would be an interesting way to go. Red has so much good in her, no matter what she has done, that it seems the only way to turn her evil is to force it upon her either through the death/resurrection or stealing her heart.
She has sacrificed so much for Snow. It would not be difficult for me to believe that Regina or Cora would try to use that against them both.
Now, would I want it to be permanent? No. Would I enjoy it while it lasted? Of course. Drama!
Would I rather she not die in the first place? Damn straight. Killing her and leaving her dead would be a huge waste.
So, I’m convinced that Red will die in the next episode. It pains me. I loathe the idea of Sunday right now. However, there are some ways this might actually help the show - so long as the death does not remove Meghan from the show entirely:
Pros:
Cons/Fears:
Yep, they’re going to kill Ruby. And I’m going to be pissed.
Apart from Jared, Meghan is the only series regular that won’t be at the Fest tomorrow. That, on top of her not being anywhere near the set while they’ve been filming lately, seriously has me concerned for Red.
I can deal with her not being prominent in the show, but I can’t deal with her being killed off or anything.
Red’s lack of real connection to the plot and not having seen anything about her filming recently has me worried that maybe she’s the one they’ll kill off in The Miller’s Daughter just to do it.
With all the family tree twists and turns, I just expect the show to make the other two main characters related to the rest somehow. They never mention Red’s father, so why not make her George’s bastard love child or something? And then Belle’s mother can be related to Cora somehow for extra angst. Like a younger sister or slightly distant cousin.
DRAMA
Now that we kind of have Peter Pan, can we have Tinkerbell? And can she be played by Mae Whitman?
Or what if this “Tamara” is Tinkerbell? That’s why she’s with Neal in New York and comes back with him. I could dig that.
I’m so pumped up about Manhattan that all of my dreams last night were OUAT related. I actually imagined I was watching the episode, and it had a really cool ending.
If Cora wants to kill Snow and Charming for Regina (or did), then there’s a perfect way to do it. It’s staring right at them. Take Red’s heart. Make Red kill Charming in front of Snow, and then Snow herself. It would be awesomely tragic. That’s what happened at the end of my dream last night - Red was trying to help Belle and stumbled into something strange in Gold’s house, and she’s met by Cora (disguised as Red herself) who taunts and confuses her about Peter and Billy and her mother, before “stabbing” her.
Of course, she doesn’t really stab her, she just takes her heart, but the dream/episode ended before that part was revealed. Now, I of all people don’t want Red to die, but I want her to be relevant to the plot. She has so much power, so many awesome relationships to the other characters, I think that turning her against them would be an awesome twist.
I seriously woke up after this dream thinking it was the real episode. Oh well, probably won’t have any Red in it other than her taking things on foot to people in a little basket.
I get my friends hooked on television shows pretty easily. I got this one friend hooked on Justified, then Once Upon a Time and now Drop Dead Diva. We were watching DDD last night and she had walked away real quick.
When she came back, Jane—the main character—was helping a suicidal man off of a ledge. I saw man’s back and was like “Holy crap it’s ARCHIE!” and then he talked, and it was so obviously him. Or Raphael Sbarge, but still. Then I lamented the fact that it made me want to watch Once Upon a Time.
It also made me wonder what would happen if Once Upon a Time had a soundtrack like Drop Dead Diva—as in, more licensed songs. Because DDD always ends with some heart wrenching moment set to some heartbreaking song. There’s really just a lot of singing in that show. If Once Upon a Time had that many songs in it, I don’t think I would ever stop crying.
When I watch Once Upon a Time on Netflix, time flies. It makes doing work easier, for sure (I work at home). I have to drive home today for the start of Thanksgiving break, and I’m not really looking forward to the three hour drive. I wished that I could just listen to OUAT on tape, that way i could time the drive by the length of the episodes. Four episodes would do it.
Then I realized that I could! I have a smart phone, I can just plug it up and turn on Netflix. It would be like listening to it on the radio. I would put it somewhere where I wouldn’t be tempted to look at the screen, of course.
Hope it works. Otherwise I just really don’t want to do this…
The guest role of Helena is being cast. She’s a 30-year-old brunette who is a sophisticated lady and also a fierce hunter of deadly creatures.
[x]
Automatically thought it had something to do with her hunting Red. Maybe she’s Helena from the play! I love that play!
I played the Moon. :)
That. Would. Be. AWESOME.
BILLY!!!!!!
In those few seconds, I totally shipped it. ”I already know Ruby, I want the chance to meet Red.” The smile on her face was so lovely. Ugh, it was just so many feelings. And then to think that he walked away thinking she had rejected him.
AND THEN HE DIED.
It was also weird because not two hours earlier my friend and I had been talking about her new nephew and what her brother wanted to call him. ”He wants to call him Gus but then thought that you have to have a certain personality to pull Gus off.” ”Well you have Gus Gus, from Cinderella, he could be like that.” And then Billy was Gus. It was weird. At the next commercial break we were like “Whaaaat?”
